Novel-writing software that detects continuity errors, plot holes, and story inconsistencies.
Bunsho is a story-aware integrated writing environment (IWE) designed for novelists. It builds a connected map of your story—characters, locations, events, and rules—and uses that to catch continuity errors, plot holes, and inconsistencies before your readers do. The editor is free to download for macOS and Windows and requires no account for basic use.
Bunsho offers a free tier and three paid plans:
Prices are in USD. Cancel any time. The editor stays free with no account.
What exactly does Bunsho do? Bunsho is an integrated writing environment that builds a connected map of your story (characters, locations, events, and rules) and uses that to catch continuity errors when you ask for a check.
Is this an AI that writes my book for me? No. Bunsho is not a ghostwriter. It’s a continuity and consistency assistant that helps you keep your story logically sound while preserving your own voice.
How do I get Bunsho? Download it for macOS or Windows from the website. The editor works with no account. Sign in when you want the AI features.
Will there be a desktop app? Yes. Bunsho is designed as a desktop-first experience. The initial versions may require an internet connection for AI features.
Is Bunsho free? The editor is free to download, with no account. The AI features (the continuity checker and Director Mode) come with starter credits on the free plan, and paid plans add a monthly allowance.
Does Bunsho use AI? Yes. Bunsho uses AI to maintain a persistent understanding of your manuscript and detect continuity issues when you run a check. In Director Mode, it can also draft prose for a scene you direct, but only as a beat sheet you approve first, checked against everything your characters already know before a word is rendered. It never rewrites your existing manuscript without your say-so.
