Find your color season and scan makeup for personalized YAY, OKAY, or NAY matches across thousands of products.
TruHue is an app that combines 12-season color analysis with real-time product scoring. It helps users find their color season and scan makeup products to receive a personalized YAY, OKAY, or NAY match.
TruHue offers a free tier that includes the color analysis quiz, product search, online product scorer tool, comedogenic ingredient checker, browser extensions, and season color palettes. The iOS app has a free tier with scan limits and optional premium features for unlimited scans, foundation matching, and favorites.
What is color analysis? Color analysis is a method of determining which colors harmonize with a person's natural coloring (skin, hair, and eyes). The 12-season Sci/Art system categorizes everyone into one of 12 seasons based on four dimensions: undertone (warm/cool/neutral), depth (light/deep), chroma (muted/clear), and contrast (low/high). Each season has an ideal color palette that makes you look healthier and more vibrant.
What are the 12 color seasons? The 12 color seasons are: Bright Spring, True Spring, Light Spring (warm seasons), Bright Winter, True Winter, Deep Winter (cool seasons), Light Summer, True Summer, Soft Summer (cool-muted seasons), and Soft Autumn, True Autumn, Deep Autumn (warm-earthy seasons). Each season has a unique combination of undertone, depth, chroma, and contrast that determines which makeup colors work best.
How does TruHue score makeup products? TruHue's scoring engine analyzes each product's color across four dimensions: undertone (40% weight), depth (25%), chroma (20%), and contrast (15%). These are compared against each season's ideal palette. Products scoring 70% or higher are rated YAY (great match), 35-69% are OKAY (wearable), and below 35% are NAY (clashing). The database includes 50,000+ products from 700+ brands.
Is TruHue free? Yes. The color analysis quiz, product search, online product scorer tool, comedogenic ingredient checker, browser extensions, and season color palettes are all free. The iOS app has a free tier with scan limits and optional premium features for unlimited scans, foundation matching, and favorites.
What is olive undertone in color analysis? Olive is a secondary undertone characterized by greenish or golden-green tones in the skin. About 15-20% of people have olive undertones. Olive can be warm-olive or cool-olive. People with olive undertones often struggle with standard color analysis because their green tint can make both warm and cool colors look slightly off. TruHue's quiz detects olive undertones and adjusts product scoring accordingly.
What is the best color analysis app? TruHue is the only app that scores individual makeup products against all 12 color seasons. Other color analysis apps like Dressika and ColorWise provide color palettes but do not score specific products. TruHue covers 50,000+ products from 700+ brands and includes barcode scanning in the iOS app, browser extensions for shopping on Sephora and Ulta, and a free online product scoring tool.
What is seasonal color analysis? Seasonal color analysis is a system that categorizes people into color seasons based on three color characteristics: undertone (warm, cool, or neutral), depth (light or dark), and clarity (bright or soft). Your season determines which colors make you look healthier, more vibrant, and more like yourself.
How does TruHue determine my color season? TruHue analyzes your features based on your answers about hair color, eye color, and skin tone, plus a selfie you provide. We use the same three key factors that professional color analysts use — undertone, depth, and clarity — to determine your seasonal color palette in minutes.
Does TruHue work for all skin tones? Absolutely. The 12-season color analysis system is designed to be inclusive across all skin tones, ethnicities, and undertones. Every skin tone has a season — and every person deserves to find theirs.
How do I download TruHue? TruHue is live and free on the App Store. You can also try it in your browser at truhue.app/app without downloading anything.
How is TruHue different from brand shade finders like Sephora Color IQ? Brand shade finders like Sephora Color IQ are designed to match you to products within a single brand's range. TruHue is different — it analyzes your personal color season based on your unique coloring, then matches that season to products from ANY brand. You get universal compatibility, not brand-limited results.
Who built TruHue? TruHue was built by Liv and her mom Claudia — a homeschooling family from Oklahoma. It started when Liv picked out a lipstick that looked completely wrong on her, and they both wished there was an app for that. So they took color analysis classes and started building it together — Liv leading the technical side, Claudia learning right alongside her.
